girls make your move
A recent government campaign that has been introduced is Girls, make your move. With television, magazine and social media advertisements constantly appearing, this campaign is becoming quite well-known. Therefore, in today's post I decided to delve a bit deeper and share my thoughts with you all on this new notion.
After my first watch of the 45 second advertisement, I was left quite befuddled. Firstly, my feminism spurred inside and I thought to myself "Why do girls need to be active and not boys? Shouldn't the government be encouraging everyone to be healthy?". After absentmindedly watching the McDonalds and Coles ads, my thoughts came yet again to this new campaign. "Okay, so I guess that boys are encouraged to be sporty and athletic already, due to social standard (which itself is ridiculous) and girls tend to avoid being active and become more lazy, or take the non-healthy approach" I thought.
Suddenly, I was itching closer to the government's side. Although, not all girls can be described as unfit, unhealthy and unmotivated, there is definitely quite a large amount. Participating in sport is not encouraged or emphasised as much as it is to boys and girls can be pulled into the mindset that it's boring, too hard or even pointless. However, I know from experience that playing in a team of friends, laughing and giving it a go is not the worst thing that can happen.
After doing a bit of snooping on the website and gaining a bit more knowledge, honestly I was all on board. This is such a great initiative and I don't think enough people are getting the message. This campaign is encouraging girls to take the healthier response towards exercise. They are pushing that exercise is for fun, rather then focussing on your weight or size. The Department of Health summed it all up in a nutshell, and I probably couldn't word it better if I tried:

"It's time to get moving. It's not about ability, and it's not about perfection- it's about having more energy and feeling better. Putting yourself first. Get out there with friends, or get active by yourself, Have fun, it's not about competition and it doesn't have to be an organised sport. Being active makes you feel good. Girls make your move."
I'd definitely advise you all check out the website here. It's jam-packed full of advice, activities and apps for girls, like us to use and there's even events coming soon to participate in.
That's pretty much it for today, so keep your eyes peeled for more posts coming soon.
