the time theory
'not even the seas could drown you from my thoughts'
For so long she had dreamt of escape, of fresh starts and new beginnings. She had awaited this moment as if a single plane ride would rid her of her problems, cleanse her of worries and eradicate unwanted feelings.
Yet no matter the distance, no matter the miles travelled, she was still the same. Those same tired eyes looked back at her in the mirror, the same worried thoughts circled her brain and her heart still beat it's usual drum.
We all often cling onto the idea that a certain moment or point will make all the difference, that by running away our problems will be solved, or once a certain date pasts, things will be better. We grasp onto the notion of timing as the be all and end all, as if waiting and prolonging is supposed to make it easier.
The hard hitting reality is that it doesn't.
Time cannot heal all wounds, and it is perhaps unrealistic for us to think so. We rely so heavily on the idea that this greater being of time will mend us, that with a single moment, radical change can occur. We put faith in the idea of 'perfect timing', the belief that the right time will come.
We make timelines and put things on hold for another day, excusing the procrastination and avoidance by blaming it on poor timing.
But where is the line drawn? Indeed, when is accountability enforced to the human themselves?
Your life cannot be lived encompassed by the idea that one day, the time will come, for if so, you will spend a lifetime waiting. The harsh truth is that perfect timing does not exist. There will not be a single moment in which everything aligns, or the universe tells you that today is the day. It comes with accepting that there is no perfection, life cannot be controlled.
So perhaps, yes, you can live under the false pretences of 'perfect timing' and 'the time will come', but only for so long. It is but a short-term decision and lifestyle which will eventually crumble, broken by the knowledge that the world waits for nobody, and you are truly the only one able to make change.
We can dream and we can hide behind false truths, telling ourselves relentlessly that 'the time will come', repeating the mantra religiously as if it will manifest it into reality. Yet, time will not make changes for you, only you are capable of that. And if you don't, someone else will do it for you. To put it simply, changes will not magically occur in your life unless you make them happen. The universe works in mysterious ways, but it is far from all-ruling.
So whilst she may wish the travelled oceans and skies could transform her into a better being, that time could erase all of her woes and fix all problems, it was only her own actions and choices which could truly make change.
