enough is enough

How is any of it real? It all just feels like I'm sitting in my bedroom, watching my laptop, eyes engrossed in another world, my thoughts commentating on the screen, but obviously no actions being made, because it's a tv show, not real.

But this isn't a tv show, this is the world we live in.

What is actually wrong with our society? It's a question that I've been constantly asking myself these past few days, and there never seems to be a solid answer.

Why are we handing each other weapons to kill, as if we are being armed for some danger or battle against one another? This isn't the Hunger Games, and the whole notion has truly and utterly gone far past the argument of protecting yourself.  I mean, what is the actual common sense behind giving someone a gun, to defend themselves in case of what? someone else has a gun?

There are those that continue to defend the deaths of students and innocent people by supporting the US gun laws. They are ultimately choosing to accept this pattern of an average of over 4 shootings each month, one a week. Students overseas are becoming too scared to have an education, almost counting down the days till they are next, crossing their fingers they can call themselves a survivor. Teachers and those who work in the education system have to be trained on how to deal with these situations, trained on what to do in the case that their lives, and the student's around them are put in jeopardy.

Nobody should be fearful of going to work, or school. Nobody should have to cross their fingers each day, or second-guess their classmates, or those around them. I also just want to point out that the Santa Fe shooting was another incident which also arose the issue of misogyny, in which a victim was targeted because she rejected the shooter's harassing advances. Whilst, equality and the treatment of women is an issue that I am passionate about, I don't want to discuss this in that much detail today, as I'll only end up on a tangent, or discussing each event a little too deeply.

Twenty two. Twenty two shootings and half of the year hasn't even gone. I already feel so angered by this number, and I'm not even a citizen of the country in which this is happening.

How do we expect to tackle issues of global warming and poverty, when we have people in the world who can't even feel safe in what is declared as a "First World Country".

That's just exactly it though, isn't it. We can't expect to achieve anything until we all work together, allow ourselves to unite and learn to love on another, rather than playing in a game of conquering minds and bodies.

I want to believe in change, believe that with the ageing of our generation things will be different, but I can't help thinking that maybe every generation thought the same thing. Maybe we will be just another generation, one who hopes for change everyday, until its too late. However, I still hold onto my hope. We've seen so much movement for change this year, with marches and speeches galore, and a part of me is proud for how we refute and stand up to the inequities that continue to occur.

However, at the end of the day it's one country, one country whose world continues to become graver and more dangerous, all due to the policies they implement. The statistics are all there, and the solution is so loud that I can't understand why it continues to be ignored.

My words and opinions will make no change by themselves. It's gone on long enough and it's time for all of us, even those across the sea, to stand up and tell America, it's time for change, enough is truly enough.
