emotional days

Emotional days are something we all deal with. The causes can differ from stress, to drama, to even that time of the month. Unfortunately, these days have the possibility to drag on or even last for moments and is something that as a teenager, we all have to deal with.

As I've been trekking my way through the beginning of Year 11, I've already witnessed and experienced quite a number of emotional days. Indeed, it was only a week ago I was sitting in my bedroom, having a breakdown over my Maths homework.

When all your emotions are heightened, it can become really difficult to think clearly or communicate your thoughts. We all react in different ways and sometimes you can be pushed to retaliate or even lash out on those who care. It is hard to deal with emotional days because as the word suggests, you are emotional. You exaggerate and overthink every possible thing in your head and it all can become overwhelming to say the least.

It's important that these short emotional moments/days/weeks don't ruin our outlook. Indeed, as I reach the end of a long and somewhat brutal Semester 1, lessons and techniques have been gained as to how to deal with the worst of times. Although, emotional days themselves are very personal and based around the individual, I decided to share just a few of my coping tips with you all, in hope of limiting the future stress and tears:

#1: Take a step back: put everything into perspective, cut out all the excuses and drama and look at the core. Good questions to ask are: "Will I still be worried about this next week/year?
"What are my options?", or for school stress, "When is it due?" . Most of the time, the 'worst thing in the world' is not that bad at all.

#2: Make a plan: rather than stressing and thinking about everything you have to do, sit down and write a plan. I like to write what I want to achieve each day of a week, that way feeling a lot more in control. However, although planning is useful, it is important to take one week at a time and not get too overwhelmed.

#3: Sleep: especially if you feel emotional at the end of the day, it is a good idea to just go to bed. Being tired is not going to help you. It is a weird concept but strangely enough, sometimes a good night's sleep is all you need and you can wake up feeling a lot more positive and happy.

#4: Do something that makes you happy: whether it's watching a movie, reading a book or eating your favourite food, sometimes a bit of comfort can make all the difference for those emotional days.

I hope you all enjoyed this quick post tonight and hopefully don't have to use my advice that soon!

Keep pushing through it all
