jog on: mango smoothie recipe
Welcome back to another Jog On! Its so good to be writing for you all again. I hope your fitness journey is still going good, I'm actually so surprised, and proud I've kept going for as long as I have. Well, not to say there hasn't been a few slip ups and bad weeks along the way...
One of my main issues with maintaining a healthy diet is snacking and I mentioned this is in my healthy snacks post. I find eating a healthy lunch and even morning tea easy, because I pre-pack everything before I go to school. This way when I feel the urge for something like chocolate, I can't have it because there isn't any. However, when I get home from school there sits a cupboard full of food and sometimes it feels like its calling my name. I'm pretty lucky most of the time because my family doesn't buy a great deal of junk however, if I was desperate I'm sure I could find something. So in spite of my afternoon snacking ordeal, I decided it was time to take action and find an alternative.
So as you can tell by the title, that alternative was smoothies. Now I am not a big dairy fan so when I found my self enjoying a mango smoothie, I was surprised. The smoothie I created was packed with vitamins and nutrients, but also soothed my sweet craving and filled me up. With a bit of tweaking and testing, I've created a recipe which I really enjoy and use all the time. Now this recipe is completely adjustable depending on what ingredients you have available and your preferences. I usually like to add pineapple to mine to add some tang but we didn't have any in the fridge this week :( I also sometimes add a bit of kiwi or banana, just to increase the serves of fruit. Another idea is to add less apple juice and then you will get a much thicker consistency. You can then eat it with a spoon and voila, you have mango sorbet!
